Anxiety And Panic Attacks

Anxiety and panic attacks are a very big cause for alarm among a large part of the population in the United States. These attacks can leave a capable adult shaking and terrified, and not sure exactly what is happening or what triggered the attack in many cases.

One out of every three people in this country suffer from anxiety or a panic disorder, but there is help available so that you do not have to live with the fear any longer. Medications, therapy, and other methods can be combined to maximize the treatment effectiveness. There is no need to just live with these life changing disorders, instead talk to your doctor about treatments that will help you cope and overcome the panic and anxiety.

Anxiety and panic attacks are more common than many people believe, and if you do not suffer from one of them, then you probably know someone who suffers from these disorders, even if you do not realize it. Minimizing these problems will not make them go away, so it is imperative that you seek help if you have any symptoms of these attacks, and counsel anyone you know who suffers from anxiety or panic to get the medical treatment that can really help.

Anxiety and panic attacks can become serious enough to need medication during these attacks to help you calm down. One of the newest medicines for phobias, panic, and anxiety is Buspirone, but this drug must be allowed a few weeks to build up in your system because it has a cumulative effect. Benzodiazepines, the family of drugs that includes Valium and other light sedatives, are very effective at fast and efficient relief of the attack. The drugs can cause dependence, however, so they are generally only used for a short time. Anyone who has a history of substance abuse should not take any of the drugs in this class because the risks of abuse or dependence become much higher. Therapy with a psychologist or psychiatrist is recommended, because medication alone is usually not as effective as combining the two.
